Ludacris
Ludacris

Christopher Brian Bridges (born September 11, 1977), known professionally as Ludacris is an American rapper and actor. Born in Champaign, Illinois, Ludacris moved to Atlanta, Georgia, at age nine, where he first began rapping. Starting out with a brief stint as a DJ, he formed his own record label, Disturbing tha Peace in the late 1990s to independently release his debut studio album Incognegro (1999). After its single, “What’s Your Fantasy” (featuring Shawnna), became a top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, the album was re-released by Def Jam Recordings as his major label debut, Back for the First Time (2000). The latter album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 and spawned his second top 40 single, “Southern Hospitality” (featuring Pharrell).

Ludacris’ following albums, Word of Mouf (2001), Chicken-n-Beer (2003) and The Red Light District (2004), were each met with continued success and received multi-platinum certifications by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His fifth and sixth albums, Release Therapy (2006) and Theater of the Mind (2008), explored more serious subject matter than its predecessors. His seventh album, Battle of the Sexes (2010) featured a return to the more lighthearted tone of his earlier albums. Throughout his career, Ludacris has scored two number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 as a lead artist: “Stand Up” (featuring Shawnna) and “Money Maker” (featuring Pharrell), as well as three singles which did so as a guest performer: Usher’s “Yeah!” in 2004, Fergie’s “Glamorous” in 2007, and Taio Cruz’s “Break Your Heart” in 2009. The following year, he guest featured on Justin Bieber’s single “Baby”, which remains one of the highest-certified singles of all time in the United States.

Timbaland
Timbaland

Timothy Zachery Mosley (born March 10, 1972),[4] known professionally as Timbaland, is an American record producer, rapper, and singer. Timbaland’s first major production credit was on the album Ginuwine…the Bachelor (1996) by R&B singer Ginuwine. Further commercial success on his following productions—including Aaliyah’s second studio album One in a Million (1996) and Missy Elliott’s debut studio album Supa Dupa Fly (1997)—made him a sought-after producer for R&B and hip hop acts. He performed as a recording artist himself while doing so, releasing three albums as part of the Virginia-based hip hop duo Timbaland & Magoo, along with his debut solo album, Tim’s Bio (1998). He produced Justin Timberlake’s 2002 single “Cry Me a River”, and thereafter produced the majority of Timberlake’s subsequent releases—including FutureSex/LoveSounds (2007) and The 20/20 Experience (2013)—along with their respective hit singles.

Timbaland’s 2007 single “Give It To Me” (featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake) peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100 and preceded the release of his second album, Shock Value (2007). It spawned the follow-up singles “The Way I Are” (featuring Keri Hilson) and “Apologize” (with OneRepublic), which peaked at numbers three and two on the chart, respectively. His third album, Shock Value II (2009) was supported by the top 40 singles “Carry Out” (featuring Justin Timberlake), “Say Something” (featuring Drake) and “If We Ever Meet Again” (with Katy Perry). Meanwhile, Timbaland’s production credits throughout this time expanded to include songs for Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Madonna, Kanye West, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, and Björk, among others. He has won four Grammy Awards from 22 nominations.

Trick Daddy
Trick Daddy

One of the most thuggish rappers embraced by the mainstream, Trick Daddy broke out of the South in 2001 with “I’m a Thug” and established himself as an unlikely national superstar. Before his breakthrough, he scored a few regional hits. In particular, he became known for “Nann Nigga” and “Shut Up,” club anthems characterized by rousing beats and rowdy lyrics. When TrickDaddy finally broke into the mainstream with the appropriately titled “I’m a Thug,” it came as somewhat of a surprise. No one questioned his talent, but his image — a trademark omnipresent grimace, bald head, prickly whiskers, forearm tattoos, and gold grill — hardly matched that of other mainstream rappers. Thug or not, TrickDaddy became a national superstar. He collected numerous RIAA accolades, including a platinum certification for 2001’s Thugs Are Us, and hit the Top Ten of the Billboard R&B/hip-hop albums chart with seven consecutive releases through 2009’s Finally Famous: Born a Thug, Still a Thug. The rapper wasn’t nearly as prolific the following decade but continued performing, releasing the occasional mixtape and EP while remaining sought for guest verses.
